Talisker Wilder Seas x Parley Limited Edition Single Malt Whisky
Talisker Wilder Seas is a limited-edition whisky. It has an overall rating of 85.19/100 votes on Whiskybase. It is the first Talisker whisky finished in French oak XO Cognac casks and is an honest collaboration with Parley for the Oceans, an ocean conservation not-for-profit. The bottle is made from 100% recycled glass, reducing glass bottle emissions by 82%. The funds raised from this whisky will go towards sea forests off the coasts of Scotland, South Africa and Chile.
On the nose, there are typical coastal notes and spice elements that you expect from Talisker. Brine-y, white pepper, and nori sheets are present along with soft, gentle wood smoke with a touch of caramel, toasted bread and brown sugar. There are also subtle notes of dates, figs and prunes, along with just a hint of milk chocolate. On the palate, there is a creamy, almost oily mouthfeel. There are more chocolate notes, some sultanas and a touch of campfire. Black peppercorns, a gentle mineral note, and whispers of sweet red fruits and ripe apples are present. Finally, there is a pinch of salt and some herbal peat. The finish is medium to long and slightly dry with just a touch of iodine, lingering pepper, soft wood smoke, and plums.
Overall, the Talisker DNA is present in full force in this whisky but with a genteel sweetness and fruitiness that can be attributed to the Cognac casks.
