Somoko Extra Rare is a premium Islay single malt whiskey bottled by Ian MacLeod, but few people know the distillery that supplies it. Not Abela Gavulin by and large, but with only a handful of distilleries on Islay, it's important for Islay fans to know its origins. That's part of the fun.

Aroma: There is an amazing aroma that is complex and layered. The smoke is not as strong as expected; tar, leather and some baked dessert notes, it is refined and aromatic, not as deep as the Ardbeg 10.

Taste: As if a thick stone wall is rushing towards you, with salt water and coastal delicateness, not too greasy or too peaty

Aftertaste: Slightly peppery with a touch of iodine left in the mouth
