product description:
Dr Bill Lumsden (Glenmorangie's Director of Whiskey Creation) was recently meditating on some of his happiest memories being cake-related, which inspired the good doctor to create a whiskey that evokes those cake-filled moments!
Glenmorangie's Cake Story was initially matured in bourbon casks before being transferred to Tokaji wine casks to help develop the delicious cake notes.
The result is an expression full of vanilla and fruit aromas, as well as depth and complexity.
The latest limited expression - Glenmorangie A Tale of Cake. It's supposed to capture the joy of cupcakes by the glass, and Glenmorangie has even teamed up with patisserie chefs to create a range of cocktail and cake pairings.
Nose: Very sweet and syrupy, with a big vanilla brioche theme based on classic Glenmorangie fruits like peaches, oranges and more,
Mango and flower honey for the breakthrough. Hints of muscat grapes and marzipan. Light minty/nutty flavor. Very creamy stuff with just enough freshness too.
Taste: Sweet and slightly liqueur-like, though perhaps less than expected behind the nose. Pineapple, canned peaches and grapes, oranges. There are indeed some vanilla cakes. Honey coated almonds.
However, aromas of pepper and menthol, combined with a bitter fruity component, temper the sweetness somewhat. Finishes with rich oak with a touch of minerality.
Finish: Long, now with dark fruit and chocolate, along with orange marmalade and spicy oak.
