A lively and intensely aromatic white wine from the Médoc
Caillou Blanc is the white wine of the iconic 4th Classified Growth Château Talbot in the Saint-Julien appellation, made by the grandfather of the current owner, Georges Cordier, a true pioneer with a special love for white wines. He made a farsighted decision and became one of the first to reintroduce white grape varieties to the Médoc in the 1930s.
2017 was indeed a challenging vintage, and Bordeaux's white wines were very successful, as evidenced by Talbot's Caillou Blanc 2017.
Fortunately, the vineyards of Château Talbot, with their excellent terroir in the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation, were spared the late April frost. Nature has proven generous, favoring the optimal development of the vine's vegetative cycle. The fresh temperature of summer nights preserved the freshness and purity of the fruit, giving the grapes a rich flavor profile that reflected the perfect balance between sugar and acidity. 2017 was an earlier vintage, with harvest starting in early September.
Caillou Blanc 2017, produced in the Blancs Secs appellation of Bordeaux, is intensely aromatic and reveals the personality of Sauvignon Blanc, dominating the blend at 70%, with aromas of white pulp and citrus. Semillon (30%) gives the wine a juicy and fruity feel. The purity and freshness of the fruit, the beautiful texture on the lively palate, the perfectly balanced acidity - the 2017 Caillou Blanc from Chateau Talbot is indeed a very promising vintage.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 89
The 2017 Caillou Blanc de Talbot has a rather earthy aroma of wet pebbles and flint on a core of lemon juice and white grapefruit. On the palate it is medium-bodied with surprising strength and mineral pockets, and a long, refreshing finish.
