Amiral de Beychevelle is located in the St-Julien region of Bordeaux. It is the second wine of Chateau Beychevelle , the top winery in the four-level winery. It is a famous winery with more than three centuries of history. It is called Dragon Boat House because of the sailboat pattern on the wine label.
Beychevelle Winery has a history of more than 400 years. It was built in 1565 by the wealthy and powerful Bishop Francois de Foix-Candale. The estate was later inherited by his niece, the wife of the then Governor of Bordeaux, the Duke of Epernon. The Governor was prominent and highly regarded by King Henry III of France. He later became the Commander-in-Chief of the French Navy. Since Beychevelle Winery is located near the Gironde River, the back garden of the winery extends all the way to the river. Passing ships knew that the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy lived here, so they would lower their sails to show respect when passing by. The Commander-in-Chief understood the meaning and was delighted. So he decided to use a dragon boat with half sails as the logo of the winery, which has been used to this day. The name of this winery, Beychevelle, is derived from the French "Baisse-Voile".
Taste: Deep ruby color, with cherry, black currant and blackberry aromas, tobacco and a hint of lavender, as well as soil and oak. Medium to full-bodied, full of red fruit, black fruit and mineral flavors, with firm tannins.
